Meeting Mister and Miles

Our youngest son, Justin, comes over for dinner every weekend.  We look forward to his visit and the special time we can spend with him.  It is really a pleasure to hear him talk about his week and his music projects.  We even went to California for Christmas 2008 together to visit our eldest son, Geoffrey, and the rest of the family.

Fast forwarding through 2009, we are still enjoying Justin's weekly visits during January, February, March, April and May.  On the last Sunday of May, 2009, Justin called and asked if he could bring three friends to dinner.  We of course said "Yes!"  Justin had invited friends to our home and to church before, so we were excited to meet his three friends. We set three more places at the table and then waited.

About 35 minutes later, Justin arrives holding two baby carriers with little ones in them.  There was a female person with him of whom we had never heard mention.  Justin and his friend came inside our home with the babies.  Justin placed the carriers on the floor and said "Meet your new grandchildren."

We were dumbfounded, to put it mildly.  We must have just stood there for 5-10 seconds (an eternity) looking at these babies.  We then in unison bent down and picked up one of the babies.  Geoffrey had Mister and Janell had Miles.  We looked at each other and then back at the babies in our arms.  We were completely speechless.  Justin and Ebony Denham, the babies' mother, sat on the couch and just waited for our response and avalanche of questions.

Now we have a larger family with our two new grandsons.  Ebony also has a seven year old daughter, Deionie Denham, who has adopted us as grandparents.  She was introduced to us about three weeks later suddenly in a surprising manner.  Despite that, we have accepted her with open arms and delight in playing games, going on excursions and cooking with her.
